One of the perks of traveling for work in our motorhome (a true mobile office on wheels) is that the journey itself often becomes just as memorable as the job. Since the work assignment was more than six hours from home base, we planned the trip to stay overnight at a Harvest Hosts location—a network that lets RVers overnight park at farms, wineries, and other unique countryside spots.

We pulled in for the night, surrounded by rolling fields and the kind of quiet you only find away from the highway. But the real surprise came when we spotted a vintage Mack truck parked nearby.

A Classic Find: The Mack B61

This wasn’t just any old truck—it was a Mack B61, part of the legendary B Series built between 1953 and 1966. The rounded fenders, tall vertical grille with the “Mack” script, and of course the trademark bulldog hood ornament gave it away instantly.

The B61 was one of Mack’s most popular models, powered by their rugged Thermodyne diesel engine and known for hauling just about anything you could throw at it. Whether it was hitched up as a semi tractor or working hard as a dump truck, the B61 became a symbol of reliability in mid-20th-century trucking.

Why It Stood Out

There was something fitting about parking our motorhome beside the B61. Our rig is built for mobility, efficiency, and modern convenience. The Mack B61 was built for endurance, grit, and sheer strength. Decades apart, yet both serving the same essential purpose: getting the job done.

Making Claims Efficient from the Road

Having the motorhome makes handling claims that are a bit further from home base surprisingly efficient. With my wife driving the rig and our mobile hotspot keeping us connected, I can get paperwork done, process documents, and stay on top of emails while we’re en route. It’s like a mini-office on wheels—turning travel time into productive work time.

It made our stop more than just a quick overnight stay—it turned into a reminder of how work and travel have always been intertwined, from the classic road warriors of the past to today’s version of taking your office on the road.

Sometimes, the best part of a work trip isn’t the destination, but the stories you collect along the way—and the little efficiencies that make long drives feel just a bit easier.
